RECALL ALERT: Bumble Bee and Chicken of the Sea Tuna March 2016

by Jenna Gleason

There has been a nationwide recall on canned tuna as of Wednesday March 16th, 2016.

If you haven't seen this yet and you were thinking of giving your kids tuna this weekend for lunch, think again. With 2 major brands involved, it may be best to hold off on using canned tuna for a while.

The Bumble Bee Company is recalling three of their chunk light tuna, which adds up to 31,579 cans of tuna! The reason for the recall is because there were citing deviations in the sterilization process that occurred in a San Diego based company not owned by Bumble Bee Tuna.

"These deviations were part of the commercial sterilization process and could result in contamination by spoilage organisms or pathogens, which could lead to life-threatening illness if consumed," both companies said in separate statements.

Also in other related news, Tri-Union Seafoods is recalling 2,745 cases of Chicken of the Sea brand canned tuna because it might be undercooked due to an equipment malfunction, according to manufacturer Tri-Union Seafoods. The recalled UPC codes are 0 4800000195 5 and 0 4800000245 7. They were produced between February 10, 2016 and March 16, 2016.

As of this post, there have been no cases of illness reported due to this recall, but its still enough of a threat to check your cans!

The recall extends to three varieties of chunk light tuna that were produced in February 2016 and distributed nationally.
