Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp. cooking oil
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1-2 drops of food coloring (optional)

Tools Needed:

  • Large Sauce Pan (Non-Stick works the best!)
  • Spatula or Wooden Spoon
  • Wax paper or parchment paper
  • Hard Surface (Cutting Board or Counter Top will do!)

Directions:

  1. Mix ingredients in saucepan.
  2. Turn on stove to a medium heat.
  3. Continue mixing over low-medium heat until a ball forms.
  4. Once the dough mixture begins to pull away from the sides of the pan, remove the dough.
  5. Allow the dough to cool a bit on a plate or cutting board lined with wax paper.
  6. While still warm, (but not HOT) knead play dough on a hard surface to remove any lumps.
  7. Add food coloring of choice. (optional)
  8. Knead until all color is mixed in.
  9. Play!
  10. Once you are finished, store in an air tight container.

This recipe will keep fresh for a few weeks, up to a few months depending on how often it is used, your climate and the container you keep it in.

Have fun playing and don't worry if little ones take a taste! While it is not intended for or recommended to allow children to eat a large quantity, this edible play-dough is non-toxic and food-safe!
